Dorian Gray Studios were founded in 1989 in the small village Eichenau near Munich as a division of music support group. Music support group offered additional services such as CD duplication and graphic design, thus allowing customers to access a turnkey service that takes them from initial recording to a finished product and also operated the Academy DeutschePOP, which over the years became msg`s main business.
Although being a rather small facility back then Dorian Gray Studios were delivering high quality music recording services to commercial clients as well as providing equally high quality training to the next generation of audio professionals. From MIDI production to recording and mixing to mastering, everything needed for a professional production was part of the concept.
In 2003 a new and bigger studio complex was built besides the old facility. Acoustic planning was done by well renowned acoustic designer Jochen Veith of jv-acoustics. Technical planning and installation were in the hands of Senior Audio Engineer Gerhard Wölfle, who just joined with Dorian Gray Studios. The new Studio 1 was considered as one of the most modern recording facilities, being equipped with a PMC MB2 XBD 5.1 active monitoring system, an SSL C200 Digital Multiformat Console and lots of outboard gear from various decades.
A new high end Mastering Suite was also part of the new studio complex, while the old facility became Studio 2, was upgraded with an SSL Duality console in 2011 and served mainly as a training studio for the academy until Dorian Gray Studios moved to a new facility in Munich in 2020.
For the new facility in Munich, three main control rooms, a mastering suite that doubles as a fourth control room and various recording areas have been built with very high standards, all under the watchful eye of Gerhard Wölfle again. Perfect sounding Studio 1 was transferred 1:1 with all its acoustic treatment and technical equipment to the new location. All control rooms face the main recording area and all rooms can be used and connected independently for whatever setup a production may need.
After the unfortunate insolvency of music support group in 2023 the studios were taken over by SRH University, one of the biggest private universities in Germany, that also offers various courses in Audio Design and Music Production.
Dorian Gray Studios still act as a commercial recording studio as well as a training facility for students of SRH University.
